Artist Statement
I am Denzel Palm, a self-taught ceramics artist from Detroit, Michigan. I began working with ceramics two years ago as a way to express myself and explore a new creative language through clay.
My practice is primarily wheel-based, creating forms rooted in the tradition of function and use. I am interested in the relationship between simplicity, texture, and detail. Through my work, I explore balance by pairing large areas of subtle texture with smaller additions and intentional details that invite a closer look.
Each piece is an opportunity to experiment with form and surface while continuing to discover the limitless possibilities of clay. My work reflects an ongoing process of learning, exploration, and self-expression, allowing each object to exist somewhere between functional form and personal expression.
