Prominent Detroit 501(c)3 Abayomi Community Development Corporation’s
Jr. JNBA and Jr. WNBA League to Draft Metro Detroit Youth, Volunteers and Sponsors
DETROIT, February 16, 2007—Registration for Abayomi Community Development Corporation’s (ACDC) 5th annual Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA League has begun and will run through March 2nd. The official 2007 Draft Day is March 10th at the New St. Mark Family Life Center at 24331 W. Eight Mile Rd in Detroit. The cost for ball players ages 5-14 is $125.00 and includes practice time, award, jersey and trophy.
The 10-week youth basketball program will tip off April 7th thru June 16th. Emphasizing skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship and positive competition, ACDC’s Jr. NBA/ Jr. WNBA league for boys and girls, is designed to work comprehensively with volunteer coaches that teach the fundamental aptitudes of organized basketball.
According to ACDC Jr. NBA/WNBA League Director Bruce Morris, “Our goals for the youth are to experience healthy competition, improve confidence and develop camaraderie and long lasting relationships amongst teammates.”
Former University of Michigan “Fab-Five” star Jimmy King will support ACDC as a volunteer coach. Over 200 youth and families participate annually in ACDC’s Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA. Parents of the past participants laud the league and its coaches. “What I loved most about the league was the coach’s dedication, love for the game and the players,” said Lakers parent, Lanora Summersett. “They are not only interested in grooming good players, but good sportsmanship.”
ACDC, whose mission is to strengthen and secure families and the local community through comprehensive community building, boasts over eight years of dedicated work throughout metropolitan Detroit. The progressive non-profit’s annual programs serve over 5000 youth and families.
League sponsors and coaches are still needed for the 2007 ACDC Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA program. According to Abayomi Board Chairperson, Natalie King, “Once introduced to our impeccable record of service and success, we are hopeful that other companies and private entities will generously contribute and/or provide resources needed for us to effectively implement and sustain programs that significantly impact the lives of countless youth and families.”
