Homebuyer Education Class

We are an Adopter of the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Counseling and Foreclosure Intervention Counseling. Our counselors maintain industry recognized certifications including NeighborWorks NCHEC certifications in Foreclosure Intervention, Home Ownership Counseling, and Financial Capabilities. We work with individuals and families to help improve their housing and/or financial situation. We provide individual and group counseling, and group education classes on various topics that promote financial security, economic self-sufficiency and home ownership. We can help you prepare for buying your first home. Our certified counselors will educate you on the home buying process, and help you prepare for the underwriting and lending requirements to successfully obtain home ownership. We participate in the Detroit Home Mortgage Program, helping aspiring homeowners to qualify for a mortgage.

Our Homebuyer Education Class meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Topics discussed include: Mortgage Affordability, Budgeting, Mortgage Loan Products, How to Make an Offer and more. We cover each step of the mortgage process from finding a realtor to closing on your home. In addition, each attendee is eligible to receive FREE one-on-one credit repair.

Once you successfully complete our Homebuyer Education Class you are eligible for Down Payment Assistance (DPA) of up to $15,000. MSHDA and other lenders we partner with have DPA programs and often times their funds can be combined. Check out our DPA Tracker that shows how much DPA our clients received last year!

If you are interested in taking one of our Homebuyer Education classes, please register below, complete the Intake Packet and return it to Jessica Stallings, Homebuyer Education Coordinator, via fax at 313-541-3820 or email at jstallings@abayomicdc.org.  Also, please submit one (1) month’s proof of income.  These documents must be submitted prior to attending class.  You must register at least 48 hours in advance to secure to attendance.  Please bring a lunch as we teach through the lunch hour.

e-Homebuyer Education Class

If you would like to take the Homebuyer Education Class in the comfort of your home, register for our online class. Abayomi has partnered with e-Home America to provide this opportunity for our clients. You will learn how to shop for a home, secure a mortgage loan and maintain your home. This class can be taken at your leisure, as there are no time restrictions.

If you are a Lender Referred client, send these required documents as well to complete your file:

  • Purchase Agreement
  • Good Faith Estimate
  • Truth in Lending Statement

 

If you do not have all of these documents, contact your loan officer and have him/her email or fax them.
